Huntsville Restaurant Week Food Blogger Tour: Toybox Bistro

*I was invited as a guest of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and was provided meals free of cost during the Food Blogger’s Tour.*

Stop number two on the Rocket City Food Bloggers tour for Huntsville Restaurant Week is Toybox Bistro. If you missed stop number one, check it out here!

Toybox Bistro, located on Jordan Lane, is so deliciously Huntsville. Its motto is “Eat, drink, and be nerdy.” Why, you ask? When one of the owners’ husband passed away a few years ago, she was left with his super impressive collection of toys, board games, figurines, and all manner of nerdy collectables. She partnered with a chef friend of hers, and Toybox Bistro was born! The space that the restaurant occupies was a diner during the early days of NASA, and “Huntsville’s original nerd” Wernher von Braun used to eat there. ?

We were greeted by one of the co-owners, Michelle Timon, who is SO awesome. You can tell she is proud of her little nerd kingdom, and with very good reason. One of the things I really love about Huntsville is that everyone here embraces every else’s inner (or maybe outer) nerd. No matter what your fandom is, you’ll find some reference to it at the Toybox Bistro, or at least find people who like the same things as you.

Our appetizers consisted of the fried wickles and the poutine. Wickles, if you are not aware, are hand-breaded and fried zesty pickles, and Toybox Bistro is the only place in Huntsville you can get poutine year-round. Both were delicious- the kind of delicious that makes you feel bad for your body, but your soul is just screaming “Thank you!” I didn’t snap a photo of these, but Charles also ordered the waffled mac and cheese. You read that right. Mac and cheese… made into a waffle. It was SO good!! Make sure you check out the other bloggers’ posts to see more photos!

For the main, we chose from the two specials that will be introduced for Restaurant week: The C3PO and the PB and Yay! The C3PO is their take on a chicken cordon bleu sandwich, made with fried chicken tenders, swiss cheese, ham, and a bacon bechamel. I only had a bite of this one, but the bite I had was DELICIOUS.

My choice was the PB and Yay! When I heard the description, I couldn’t not try it. It’s a 6oz burger with pepper jack cheese, bacon, and…. peanut butter. I was definitely skeptical hippo about putting peanut butter on a burger, but y’all. IT WORKED. It was freakin’ delicious! Definitely a must-try dish in Huntsville. Michelle told us that both the C3Po and the PB and Yay! will be added to the permanent menu after Restaurant Week.

Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly put more food into my body, Michelle brought out the cherry cheesecake rangoon dessert. It’s sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with a hard apple cider glaze. That glaze though! So good.

I really enjoyed my first trip to Toybox Bistro, and I will most definitely be back. They host fun events, too, like tin foil hat nights, movie marathons, and trivia nights. I can’t wait to see what other crazy concoctions they think up! I heard rumors about waffled spaghetti…

Check back tomorrow for the final installment of the Food Bloggers Tour!

xoxo Katie

P.S. Look at this teamwork! Right before stepping up there, Sarah said, “If I die, tell my husband it was for a stupid reason.” #DoItForTheShot
