A good hair day for me is one with volume and shine but without frizz, which is no simple task for girls like me with thin, lifeless, stick-straight hair. Dealing with my hair is an ongoing struggle for me, but recently I’ve been using a few products that make my life easier. All of these products are less than $25.00 and available at the drugstore, so you won’t break the bank if you want to try any of them out!
On Wet Hair:
After I get out of the shower, there are a few products I use before my hair dries. I use a lot of “volumizing” shampoos, which tend to be short on moisturizing properties. To combat this, and to help prevent tangles, I spray a bit of the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product. This is a holy grail for me. I recently ran out of this and immediately realized a difference in my hair. It makes your hair so soft and manageable! A more recent purchase is the Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Boost root lifter. The precision nozzle on this bottle allows me to really target my roots, where I feel like I need the most volume. My hair is fine, but there’s a lot of it, and it’s loooong. Spritzing this bad boy at the roots gives me non-crunchy volume that lasts. On a day-to-day basis, I don’t usually heat-treat my hair, but when I do I make sure to use a heat-protectant. One that I’ve been loving recently is the Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer. Another non-crunchy product, this heat protectant smells great and keeps my hair safe from all the heat I throw at it. It doesn’t provide much hold, which is something I miss, but it does its job well otherwise.
On Dry Hair:
I was sent a small sample of the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray in a Birchbox and loved it, but at $44.00, I didn’t allow myself to marry it. Since then, I’ve been searching for a suitable alternative. While not a total dupe, the Not Your Mother’s Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray is suitable. This product gives my hair grip without sacrificing movement, which helps with adding volume. To finish off my look and to tame any frizz, I end with the Garnier Fructis Volumizing Anti-Humidity Hairspray. This is a medium-hold hairspray, meaning it contributes, but isn’t like spraying shellac on your head. I absolutely love the scent of this product, and I’m on the third or fourth bottle of it!
Extras:
One other curse I’m faced with is hair that gets greasy super fast. I wash my hair every day, which I’m sure contributes, but I would be one giant greaseball if I didn’t! If I know I’m going to be out all day, I’ll preemptively spray some of the Batiste Dry Shampoo around my hairline and at my crown. I’m currently using the original scent, but my favorite is the Refresh scent. Has anyone tried the tinted ones? Let me know what you think in the comments! Another fairly new addition to my haircare arsenal that I can’t image life without is the Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing and Texturizing Powder. This is essential for fine-haired girls to take their braids from wimpy to wow. I just sprinkle a bit of this on my braid, tap it in, and pull on the braid strands for a noticeable difference. It’s odorless and colorless, but it has the weirdest texture of life. It’s very…gummy, but dry? It’s hard to explain, but it gets the job done!
What are your haircare must haves? I’m definitely still figuring out what works for my hair and what doesn’t, so I would love to hear your suggestions!
xoxo Katie
