Last Thursday, I was invited to a preview of the new Taco Mama Providence location. I had been to their Twickenham Square restaurant and enjoyed it, so I jumped at the chance! Their new location in Providence is located right across from Grille 29 and Brickhouse and has plenty of free parking next to the building, as well as across the street.
As soon as I walked in, a waitress greeted me and pointed me to the bar, where they were busy serving up margaritas. I decided to go with the frozen margarita, while my friend Joel went for the original on the rocks. Joel’s was delicious, but I found mine WAY too sour. I’ve heard really good things about their frozen margaritas, so I’m chalking this up to preview night craziness.
I felt like the space itself is smaller than the Twickenham location, but then again, it was pretty crowded! The restaurant has several tables, as well as spots at the bar and along the windows looking out toward Brickhouse. The bartop itself was pretty cool- it was poured concrete with embedded bottle caps.
The food provided was a buffet, and while it was delicious, it certainly didn’t cover the whole menu. From nachos, to burrito bowls, to taco baskets, you have tons of options. There are a lot of drink options, too! There are fountain drinks, Mexican cokes, wine, flavored margaritas, sangria, and beers.
Preview nights are always a little weird. I got a feel for the restaurant and now know exactly where the new location is, but I’ll definitely have to go back to try more of the food! I will say this though- it was great to see how energized the waiters and bartenders were. Everyone seemed really excited for the opening and were super friendly!
Have you been to a Taco Mama before?
The food looks really good to me but I agree, you don’t really get a proper idea of a place at a preview night. I do love sour stuff though, so thanks margarita sounds pretty good to me haha Thanks for the honest review.
