*I was invited as a guest of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and was provided meals free of cost during the Food Blogger’s Tour.*
For the third and final stop on our Food Bloggers Tour, we headed out to Winchester Road to see what Beignet Cafe has to offer. They serve “New Orleans dishes with a southern flair,” and I’ll add that a smile comes with your food, as well! For stops one and two, click those links!
Beignet Cafe is serving both a breakfast and a lunch special for Restaurant Week, so I had to sample a bit of both. The $5.00 breakfast includes either an egg bake or dirty grits (spicy grits with andouille and chicken), and of course a beignet! I didn’t sample the egg bake, so you’ll have to check out the other bloggers’ posts to see what they thought. I did try the dirty grits, though, and they were goooood! The menu recommends you keep your drink full for this dish due to the spice, and I second that. It has just the right amount of kick!
I haven’t had many beignets in my lifetime, but I think that may have to change. These deep-fried beauties are topped with a generous supply of powdered sugar, which I’m sure you can see in the photo below. While not exactly the easiest pastry to eat, it is certainly one of the most enjoyable, especially when paired with a Cafe Au Lait with chicory.
The $10.00 lunch special is a choice of either a country fried steak po boy with a side or a strawberry feta salad with blackened chicken. Both come with not one, but TWO beignets (the more the merrier!) and a drink. I chose the strawberry feta salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. While this isn’t a dish I normally associate with New Orleans, it was delicious all the same. The strawberries were just the perfect amount of ripe, and the feta jived with the other toppings beautifully.
For dessert, we had the tres leches bread pudding, which was super moist and topped with a huge dollop of whipped cream. I’m glad it was brought out with three spoons, because I don’t think I could have eaten a whole one by myself!
One thing we didn’t try but deserves an honorable mention are the Benny Cakes. These are beignets served pancake-style with maple syrup, and they looked delicious!
If you’re looking for good, New Orleans food with plenty of spice and/or powdered sugar, then Beignet Cafe is worth the drive!
And with that, the Food Bloggers Tour is over! I leave with new friends, new favorite dishes, and a very full stomach. Thank goodness I have a week to recuperate before Huntsville Restaurant Week starts on the 8th of August! For all the information, make sure you head over to the Restaurant Week page here, and if you post any food pictures to social media using the hashtag #DineHsv, your tweet might pop up on one of the digital billboards around town. You will also be entered to win a gift certificate to dine at one of our amazing local restaurants. Happy eating!
And here are the links to the other bloggers’ posts as well!

Haha yeah, I looked around at one point and was like “Where did Sarah go??” We’ll have to go back and try the Benny Cakes 🙂
That sounds about right. My husband has that experience all the time. And yes, I’m all for going again and trying the Benny Cakes. We need to write this stuff down because we all want to go to Belle Chèvre and I feel like there was something else.
Food looks so good!!
