What to Expect from Blue Medspa’s Signature Facial

You know that feeling when you accidentally open your Snapchat with the camera facing you and you get the fright of your life when some goblin is staring back at you? Yeah, that’s been happening to me a lot recently. I’ve started to notice that my skin just doesn’t look as nice as I would like, so I’m trying a few new things to remedy that. One thing I tried (for the very first time) was the Signature Facial at Blue Medspa at Bridge Street Town Centre in Huntsville.

Since I had never had a facial before, deciding on which one to get was a really tough decision. There are several places in town that offer facials, and each place offers different types. I eventually landed on the Signature Facial at Blue Medspa because it seemed like a good starter- nothing too crazy, but pampering all the same. It was $125 for 60 minutes.

When I arrived at Bridge Street, there was a large sign outside the door to the Westin pointing you in the right direction. The spa is located up the stairs and, as far as I can tell, is the only office on that corridor. I have to admit I was a little confused by the signs around the door, since they were all advertising the cosmetic dentistry portion of the business, so I wasn’t 100% sure that was the right place. Blue Huntsville performs a variety of services, from facials and massages to cosmetic surgery to fat loss programs, all out of the same office, so don’t be put off by signs for something other than facials!

I checked in at the desk and was given a form to fill out about health concerns, personal information, and a release- all standard stuff. Once I filled it out, it was only about 5 minutes until my facialist, Oksana, was ready for me. She took me back to the room, showed me where to put my clothes, and told me the bed was warmed up for me. Yeah, warmed up, like a car seat in one of those fancy newer cars!

Oksana started by asking me what brought me in, so we chatted about my skincare concerns for a little bit. Next she asked me what skincare products I used and how often. I was a little hesitant because I wasn’t sure if she was going to try to push any sales at me, but she didn’t. She simply wanted to know things like how often I exfoliate and use retinol in order to give me the best facial.

She began by taking my makeup off, gently exfoliating, and steaming my face. After a steam came possibly a toner- one thing I wish my facialist had done was talk me through each step. I can guess that most people who come in for a facial just want to relax in silence, so that was probably her default. I’m sure she would have if I had asked, so that’s my bad! She finished off with a masque. Between each product, she used a warm washcloth to wipe off the product, and it felt soo nice! This is such a “Katie” thing to notice, but I really appreciated Oksana’s time management. While I was steaming, she gave me hand and arm massages, and later during the face mask, she gave me a neck massage. There wasn’t a second where Oksana was just sitting there waiting on something.

After the facial was over, Oksana talked to me about some products she recommended I start using. She said there was some congestion on my forehead and to use salicylic acid pads every now and then. Again, I thought she might try to push some sales, but she didn’t- she was just giving me some professional advice based on her assessment of my skin during the facial.

Post-facial, my skin felt clean and glowy. I actually went out to dinner that night with no makeup except for mascara and lip balm! I did have a spot pop up a few days post-facial, but that makes sense. Facials work to detox your skin, and part of that detox involves drawing gunk out. I thoroughly enjoyed my facial at Blue Medspa and would recommend it! I’m looking forward to trying more, different facials so I can figure out what works best for my skin type.

Have you ever had a facial? What type would you recommend?
