I am by no means an expert at applying makeup. I still haven’t figured out the right amount of blush to use and the words “cut crease” seem more likely from a horror movie than any makeup table in my opinion. That being said, I love learning about what makeup looks good on me and what I like. While I was picking up nail polish remover and Cadbury Creme Eggs (duh) in CVS yesterday, something caught my eye and made me think that I could maybe, just maybe, succeed at a smokey eye. Paired with only four other products, these Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeshadow sticks are the quickest, easiest way to a smokey eye that I have ever experienced.
I started out with an eyeshadow primer and then just colored the outer third of my eyelid with Guilty Grey and then blended the color out with my Mac 217 blending brush. Next I swept the same color along my lower lash line and smudged it out as well. Then I took Bulletproof Beige and colored the middle two thirds of my eyelid. Again, blend. One thing I really love about these sticks is they are so creamy and blendable. You can see that on my hand swatches:
The final steps to my smokey eye simply involve a black eyeliner in the waterline and a generous coating of mascara. I used Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Eye Pencil in Velvet Black and the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.
Final result:
I will have to mention one thing, though; one of my sticks broke and then fell into itself(?). It started to fall out, so I tapped it very gently with my finger and it collapsed into the body of the stick. That’s why it looks so dinky in the photo. These aren’t twist up, so I had to do some serious sharpening surgery to get it back to usable again. Not super pleased, but hey, it’s a product under 6 bucks, so NBD.
Ignoring my gorgeous cowlick (ugh), what do you think? Subtle enough for everyday, I think. But these products are so easy to build up that this look could easily be taken from day to night. What do you think? Have any of you tried these?
