One of my favorite things about the changing seasons is getting to switch up my nail polish. No one says you can’t wear neons in autumn and dark reds in spring, but there’s just something about the usual autumn color palette that lends itself to deeper colors. As a pre-teen/teen of the ’00s, I can’t quite bring myself to bust out the black nail polish again, but I really wanted to try out a darker autumn nail polish this season. Enter the Essie Gel Couture in Caviar Bar.
Midnight blue is definitely a color I’ve had my eye on for this time of year and, oh, Glamour, Elle, Refinery29, The Zoe Report, and more agree? Well hot damn, I must be on to something! Not only is this midnight blue one of the season’s hottest colors, but the formula of this polish lasts SO long.
I’m pretty hard on my hands, but I’m also really self-conscience of my fingernails. If my polish is chipped, it drives me CRAZY. My grandmother used to say that if you weren’t going to keep your polish nice, then don’t wear it at all. The Essie Gel Couture polish makes it so easy to paint my nails and stop worrying about them. Although I’m too rough on my hands to make it the full 14 days Essie claims the polish lasts, I’ve been super impressed.
The brush in the new Essie Gel Couture polishes is broader than their normal brushes, which makes for an easier application in my opinion. They’re designed to work as a two-step product; the color goes first and then is topped with the gel top coat. There is no UV light required, no crazy salon prices, and best of all, no jackhammers required for removal! This polish came off with a cotton pad and some regular ol’ nail polish remover just as easily as a non-gel polish. There are 42 shades available at the time of publication, plus the top coat.
(psst, that photo ^ was taken A FULL WEEK after I painted my nails!)
Although they are a few dollars more than a regular Essie polish, I definitely think they are worth it. I’ve already run out and bought a second color (Rock the Runway) and will certainly pick up a few more.
What color would you pick up?
