Has this series of food blog posts got your mouth watering yet? Good! Because Huntsville Restaurant Week is fast approaching (August 14-23), so NOW is the time to start making a restaurant game plan! (Pst, did you miss the first two installments of this Food Tour? Check them out here and here!)
The third and final stop on our Rocket City Food Blogger’s Tour was at Grille 29 in Providence. Our hostess Jennifer told us the name of the restaurant came from the owner’s idea that 29 is the perfect age. While I have to say that 26 is treating me pretty well right now, I like the idea that 29 may be even better.
Before I even get to the food, I need to mention the atmosphere. I love the Providence area- it has such an urban feel to it while still remaining manageably small. Plus, I never have problems parking, which is so surprising considering the number of amazing restaurants in the area! The interior of the restaurant is just as gorgeous and chic as the exterior. There are hints of copper throughout the decor (periodic element 29!) and the largest salt water aquarium in North Alabama. And this might be T.M.I., but the ladies’ restroom is nicer than my whole apartment.
We arrived on a Sunday during their brunch hours, so we actually got to try a little bit of two meals. Before I move on, I’m just going to put this out there: 29-cent mimosas on Sundays from 10-11am. *drops the mic*
The first thing brought to the table was a selection of fruit and some delicious cranberry orange mini muffins, still warm. I never really thought about it until now, but most places don’t have a breakfast-version of bread or chips and salsa. I love this simple addition to the table!
Next, they brought out their chicken and waffles. Now I take my chicken and waffles seriously, and Grille 29 really brought their A-game. The skin was crispy, but the interior was so juicy, and the waffles were the perfect consistency. Oh, and the pecan butter sauce was heavenly. As Jessica from the CVB said, “Anything with the words ‘butter’ and ‘sauce’ together you KNOW is going to be good.”
We then made the transition into lunch. Jennifer brought out the $15 lunch special they will be serving during Restaurant Week, which starts with a chilled gaspacho with tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and jumbo lump crab.
Delicious. So refreshing for summer! Next we moved on to the main, which was the cast iron shrimp and grits. It came out in its own little adorable skillet, which I loved.
Why yes, those are chunks of peppered andouille sausage you see in there! It was just the perfect amount of spice, and large enough that I actually took some home (and ate it for lunch today and made my coworkers jealous).
Finally, the desserts came out. We were served a strawberry cheesecake, a sour cream fudge cake with vanilla ice cream, and a chocolate peanut butter truffle.
Even though all the desserts were incredible, I have to say the winner in my book is the chocolate peanut butter truffle. The peanut butter mousse is so light that it’s not overpowering, and the real star of the show is the crust- I’m not 100% what it is (other than magic), but I was reminded of a nutty baklava filling.
And with that, the Rocket City Food Bloggers Tour was over! I’m never eating again (until August 14th when Restaurant Week starts). I really can’t say thank you enough to the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for organizing this, and to the amazing folks at LawLer’s Barbecue, Hildegard’s Biergarten, and Grille 29. The food was amazing, but (if possible) the service was better. They have really showed us on this tour that Southern hospitality is live and well in the Rocket City.
I really hope you all go out and enjoy Huntsville Restaurant Week!
You know, I never have trouble parking there either, and I drive my big truck!
