This time of year is always a difficult one. I’m one of the 230982 people trying to improve their fitness and health in the new year, but my body has grown accustomed to super sugary, super decadent holiday food. Plus, going back to work after such a long break makes the days seem 10 times longer than they are, amirite? Today I’m going to share a skinny, boozy, orange hot chocolate recipe that will solve (most of) your problems.
It’s a bit of a tradition to get a Terry’s Chocolate Orange in your stocking in my family, so I wanted to make a healthier, drinkable version. This is super easy to make, and takes a hot second (ha!) to prepare. For a one-person serving, pour 1 1/2 cups of almond milk into a small saucer. Add a few strips of orange peel, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, and a teaspoon of maple syrup, and gently heat the mixture until warm.
Strain out the orange peel and pour into your mug. Stir in 1/4 ounce of brandy and 3/4 ounce Grand Marnier. If you want to, you can garnish with a chocolate orange slice, but be warned- they melt fairly quickly and may fall into your hot chocolate!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened almond milk
- orange peel strips
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1/4 ounce brandy
- 3/4 ounce Grand Marnier
Instructions
- Warm the almond milk, orange peel, and cocoa powder gently on the stove.
- Once warm, add the maple syrup and stir.
- Strain the mixture into a mug to remove the orange peel.
- Add the brandy and Grand Marnier.
- Garnish with chocolate orange slice and enjoy!
This whole process took about 10 minutes and is only 160 calories! That is literally HALF the calories of a tall Starbucks hot chocolate, and this one has booze!
What are some of your low-calorie treats?
This looks amazing! I must make this tonight! I love things like this, so comforting!
