I know that essential oils have been around for a while now, and I have several friends that sing their praises, but I’ve never really given them a shot. Until now that is! I was recently sent the Simply Earth September Recipe Box and GUYS, it’s so great. Whether you’re an essential oil fan, a curious friend, or even just someone who likes to DIY, this box is for you.
The Company
Simply Earth is a small, family-run essential oils company based in Hingham, Wisconsin. It was started with the goal of making natural, affordable, effective products. Their oils are sourced globally, but bottled in the US. They work directly with the farmers, which allows them to keep their prices low. For example, a Simply Earth Bergamot 15ml oil is $13.99, while the same size from a competitor is $40. On their website, you can sign up for their monthly recipe boxes, single essential oils, oil accessories, and even jewelry. One huge thing that really strikes a cord with me is that they are giving back. When you shop at Simply Earth, 13% of the profits go to help fight human trafficking.
The Box
Like I said, I got the September Recipe Box, which focused on soap making. Monthly recipe boxes include four essential oils, recipe cards, and accessories- enough to make 6 natural recipes. The monthly subscription is $39/month with free shipping, and your first box comes with a few bonuses! Mine came with a huge tub of coconut oil and some beeswax, which I didn’t need for any of the recipes included but could definitely come in handy in the future. I also want to mention how CUTE it is that they include a photo of the person who packed my box. Thank you Cheryl!
My box included:
- 6 recipe cards
- Cajeput, lemongrass, and bay essential oils
- Happy Joy essential oil blend
- Almond oil
- Solid coconut oil
- Liquid coconut oil
- Beeswax
- Glycerin soap base
- Soap mold
- 6 amber glass roll on bottles
- 6 amber glass mini bottles
- Bottle labels/stickers
The Recipes
Recipes could include things like facial sheet masks, facial toners, blends, steams, candles, lip balms, soaps and more! My box included recipes for:
- Flowers, Spice, and Something Nice Soap
- Sugar Scrub Soap Bar
- Happy Joy Facial Soap
- Happy Joy Roll On
- Lemongrass, Cajeput, and Bay Compress
- Flowers and Spice Diffusion Blend
I don’t have ANY experience with making soaps or even with essential oils to begin with, but let me tell you, this could not have been any easier. The first recipe I tried was the Happy Joy Roll on- and it literally took five minutes. This blend is made up of geranium, sweet orange, grapefruit, and ylang-ylang, and is supposed to help ease stress and promote feelings of happiness and joy. It’s currently sitting on my bedside table, but I think I may take this into the office…
The next recipe I tried was the Flowers and Spice Diffusion Blend, another super quick craft. After adding all the oils (increased a bit in quantity) into a recycled diffuser bottle and swirling around, I was met with the most lovely spicy yet floral scent. It’s currently sitting in my stairwell and I love it.
Finally, I tried my hand with the Sugar Scrub Soap Bar. This one called for a few things not included in the box, but easy to find in the kitchen: cinnamon and sugar. The instructions were clear, and I’m surprisingly happy with the result! Guys, I made my own soap!!!
Try It Yourself!
If you’ve even entertained the idea of essential oils, or you’re looking for a fun way to make natural products, I definitely suggest trying Simply Earth Recipe Boxes. I wasn’t expecting to love this box as much as I did (just because I haven’t really used essential oils in the past), and I want you to be pleasantly surprised as well! Simply Earth has kindly given me a referral link AND a code for you to use! If you use KATIEACTUALLYFREE when you check out with your first subscription box, they’ll give you a $40 credit for a future purchase. That’s like getting a whole box for free! And guys, I heard through the grape vine that the October box theme is “Fall Candles…”
What do you use essential oils for? I’d love to know to get some inspiration!
I’m not sure I want to commit to spending $40 a month on something like this, but it does sound like a good conversation me any with great quality.
Thanks Ruth! You can try one box first, cancellation is free of charge! 🙂
